Since September 1, 2022, Thailand has introduced a new type of long-term visa — the LTR (Long-Term Resident), allowing individuals to stay in the country for up to 10 years.
Benefits of the LTR visa:
- Validity up to 10 years (5+5)
- Multiple entry (no need to obtain a re-entry permit)
- Immigration reporting once per year instead of every 90 days
- Eligibility for a Digital Work Permit
- Simplified visa and immigration procedures
- Tax benefits (including a 17% rate for qualified professionals)
- Ability to include family members
- Ability to open bank accounts
- Suitable for long-term residence in Thailand
There are four categories of the LTR visa, each with different requirements:
1. Wealthy Citizen:
- Assets of at least USD 1 million
- At least USD 500,000 must be invested in Thailand
2. Wealthy Pensioner:
- Age 50 or above
- Passive income of at least USD 80,000 per year at the time of application
- If income is between USD 40,000–80,000, assets in Thailand of at least USD 250,000 are required (government bonds, investments, or real estate)
3. Work from Thailand Professionals:
- Income of at least USD 80,000 per year over the past two years
- If income is between USD 40,000–80,000, the applicant must:
- hold a Master’s degree or higher
- own intellectual property
- or have received Series A funding
The employer must be listed on a stock exchange or be a private company with at least USD 150 million in revenue over the past three years.
4. Highly-Skilled Professionals:
- Income of at least USD 80,000 per year over the past two years
- If income is between USD 40,000–80,000, a Master’s degree (or higher) in science and technology or specialized expertise relevant to work in Thailand is required
- No minimum income requirement for specialists working in Thai government institutions
- Employment must be in a targeted industry
Spouses and dependents:
- Legal dependents (spouse and children)
- The LTR visa is granted to children up to 20 years old
Note: Same-sex marriages and partnerships are not recognized under Thai law.
General requirements:
All categories require health insurance with coverage of at least USD 50,000, or social security covering treatment in Thailand, or a deposit of at least USD 100,000 (USD 25,000 for dependents).
Processing time:
- Visa issuance after approval: 1–3 weeks
- Application approval: 1–4 months
LTR visa application process:
- We collect your documents and conduct a preliminary assessment.
- Agreement signing and preparation begin (fee: 10,000 THB).
- After preparation and payment of 40,000 THB, the application is submitted.
- Within 1–2 weeks, the BOI may request additional documents:
- If requested — we prepare and upload them
- If not — we wait for approval (1–2 months)
- After approval, the remaining service fee of 50,000 THB is paid.
- Visa issuance:
- via consulate (e-Visa, no personal presence required, 1–3 weeks)
- in Bangkok (One Stop Service, by appointment)
