“LTR without documents, guaranteed, for only THB 300,000” — this is an offer that regularly appears on the visa services market.
If you are applying for an LTR visa, the first step is to check whether you meet the requirements of the selected category and whether you have sufficient documentation to submit the application.
If you have a valid basis, the document preparation process begins: translating documents into English, obtaining the necessary certificates, including a police clearance certificate, consulting on medical insurance, creating a personal account, and submitting the application.
If you do not have sufficient documentation to qualify for the selected LTR category, you should consider other legal options for staying in Thailand.
Can You Obtain an LTR Without the Required Documents?
No.
Forgery of documents for the purpose of obtaining an LTR can have serious consequences — from refusal or cancellation of the visa to criminal liability.
Recently, I met with the head of the LTR department at the BOI (Board of Investment). The authority’s position on this matter was clearly stated.
1. Questionable Documents Are Not Accepted
If the documents submitted raise concerns, the BOI may request additional explanations or supporting evidence.
If the applicant cannot explain the contents of the documents provided or confirm their authenticity, such documents will not be accepted.
2. Document Forgery May Be Detected Even After the Visa Has Been Issued
If documents were accepted but it is subsequently discovered that they were forged, the BOI may cancel the issued visa and refer the information to law enforcement authorities.
3. Information from Third Parties May Also Trigger a Review
If the BOI receives information indicating possible document forgery, the application may be reviewed again.
If the information is confirmed, appropriate measures may be taken, including visa cancellation and referral to law enforcement authorities.
Who Is Responsible for the Documents?
This is a particularly important point.
When submitting an LTR application, the applicant’s own email address is provided, not the agent’s.
The applicant submits documents and information in their own name and is responsible for their accuracy.
If an agent offers to “prepare the documents” or guarantees an LTR despite the applicant not having the necessary eligibility, responsibility for the information submitted in the application does not disappear.
It does not matter who actually prepared the questionable document — an agent, intermediary, or another person.
Can You Obtain an LTR Without a Suitable Basis?
If an applicant does not meet the requirements of a particular LTR category, it is safer to consider another category or another type of visa for which they genuinely qualify.
Attempting to obtain a visa using inaccurate or forged documents creates far more risks than abandoning a category for which the applicant does not qualify.
Conclusion
Offers to obtain an LTR “without documents” and “with a guarantee” should be treated with extreme caution.
To obtain an LTR, you must have a legal basis and substantiate it with genuine documents. The preparation of the documents must reflect the applicant’s actual circumstances.
A guarantee of obtaining a visa cannot replace the absence of the legal grounds required to obtain it.
