Foreign currency may be brought into Thailand in unlimited amounts.
Recipients of foreign currency must either exchange it into Thai baht or deposit it into a bank account.
When exchanging or depositing amounts exceeding USD 20,000, it is required to complete a Foreign Exchange Transaction Form (Thor Tor 3) in order to obtain a certificate confirming the transaction.
Local Currency
There are no restrictions on the amount of Thai currency that can be brought into Thailand.
Individuals traveling to Vietnam, China (Yunnan Province only), or neighboring countries of Thailand may carry up to 2,000,000 baht out of the country.
If the amount of Thai currency being taken out exceeds 450,000 baht, it must be declared to customs authorities.
When traveling to other countries, the export of Thai currency is limited to 50,000 baht.
Currency Exchange Operations
All currency exchange transactions must be conducted through commercial banks or through non-bank institutions licensed by the Ministry of Finance to carry out foreign exchange operations.
