The Thailand Elite program is planning to offer work permits for visa holders who invest 1 million USD in Thailand. The type of investment is still under clarification. At present, approval of this privilege by the government is pending.
Work permits will be available only to certain categories of Thailand Elite members, whose visa packages cost between 1–2 million baht. The required investment into the country within one year must be at least 1 million USD.
This scheme will differ from the Board of Investment (BOI) system, where the key requirements for obtaining an investor visa and/or employment authorization are the selection of a business activity and the preparation and approval of a business plan.
Thailand Elite is primarily designed for high-net-worth tourists. Many Elite visa holders are deterred from investing due to the current limitation that prevents them from participating in the management or work of their own business projects. It is hoped that this restriction will soon be lifted.
